The role of a serf wouldn't be as fun because you're being told want to do and are basically at the bottom of the social class. What would your daily life be like? What would you enjoy and not enjoy about life? I am pretty sure that there were ways in which feudal lords could've worked their lands without serfs, however, no benefits will come from their lands because I am pretty sure the lords wouldn't want to work on their lands.ģ) Choose one of the four levels of the feudal pyramid and describe what it would be like to live in that role. I believe it helped the development of Western Europe's development because it kind of forced all social classes to rely on each other and they all gave each other something that they needed.Ģ) Is there any way feudal lords could have worked their lands without using serfs? How? My favorite part would be working with the animals.ġ) Do you think feudalism helped or hurt Western Europe’s development? Why or why not? My daily life most likely would consist of cooking and checking on the animals(milking, collecting eggs, etc.). I think it would be an interesting lifestyle and a lot of work, but I think it would be fun. During that era, I probably would work with the animals some and cook and clean the house. If I was a peasant, it would consist of a lot of farm work. Also, they could have knights do it, but knights are meant to fight not work the land.ģ. For example, the lord could work the land themselves, which they wouldn't want to do. There are ways for the feudal lords to have worked their lands without using serfs however, none of these ways would make sense or be beneficial. It also left money to the richer/higher groups from the poorer/lower groups that couldn't be put towards public projects.Ģ. However, that guideline could be harmful in forcing people to be a certain way. It also helped keep people in line and gave people an idea of what to be. They would pass things on to the lower or upper levels/classes. I think feudalism both hurt and benefited Western Europe. If I were a serf, since most peasants are, I would really not enjoy the fact that I would not be allowed to leave the land without permission.ġ. I would enjoy being protected, but I would not enjoy giving taxes to the knights. I would have to work a lot in order to give food and services to the knights in order to have land and protection. If I were a peasant in the feudal system, it would be both good and bad. The lords would have to find another way to work their land such as working it themselves, but that would not work as well as the feudal system.ģ. If the king could not operate, then he could not give land to the lords in the first place. Without the serfs, everything above on the pyramid would fail. There may have been a way for lords under the feudal system to work their lands without using serfs, but it probably would not have been as successful or beneficial. It secured the society, restored trade, there was not one individual that was too powerful, etc.Ģ. Even though it did harm its development because they could not afford big projects, there was no strong central government which led to wars, it did not bring peace, people were not treated equally, etc., feudalism also aided Western Europe. I think feudalism both helped and hurt Western Europe's development.
